Important Facts about IT

“IT” in organization – this is more than IT

The IT division is an important part of the modern organization. Like any other division in the company, the IT department depends mostly on the people, then the technology of work and only in the last place – the infrastructure. To manage information technology, people need to be competent and motivated, the technology needs to be comprehensive, rational and efficient, and the infrastructure must effectively support the technology.

This rule is usually not questioned about other functional divisions of the company. For example, the accounting division – these are mostly professionals, then – methods and rules, and finally – calculators and reporting forms. The IT department is often not seen that way because it manages a specific infrastructure and the division comes down to this infrastructure. This error is made even by the IT professionals and managers themselves. Their attention is generally focused on hardware and software systems, communications, data storage, etc.
Conclusion: The management of IT should not be limited to IT infrastructure management.
Effective operation of the IT department, and hence the effective application of IT in the organization are only possible when the activities of IT managers include management of the staff, technology and infrastructure.
Information is the most important asset of any modern organization

Information technology helps manage information – the most important asset for any organization and in some cases – the main asset. Therefore, information must be controlled, used rationally and protected.
Conclusion: The system for managing corporate information should provide an adequate level of information security. It must include a methodology for risk management.

The IT department is an organization providing services
Simultaneously with the change in the role of information technology in business over the years, there has been a change in the notion concerning what is the main result of their application.
While technology is seen as a source of innovation, it also represents the main “product” of the work of the IT department or IT provider. Users get from the developers tools to optimize business processes from the developers. With the integration of these tools in the daily activities of the organizations, their use became more natural. The boundaries between the IT infrastructure and the basic infrastructure of the companies are deleted and the technology is becoming less noticeable.

Nowadays, the use of IT is not perceived by anyone as a target – even if it means a really beautiful product of the type of large-scale ERP system. Consumers are interested in the functionality they are going to receive, the availability, performance, security, flexibility, convenience, etc. It does not matter what IT solutions are in the core of services. What is important is to what extent these services meet the requirements and expectations of the users. The IT department has the responsibility of providing the users in the company with quality services throughout the whole cycle of their use.

In conclusion: For this purpose, the IT division should be managed as an organization providing services.
IT needs a system for quality management

If the IT department is seen as an organization providing services, quality of service is an essential feature for its effectiveness.

This quality is largely dependent on the characteristics of products (programs, infrastructure components), but primarily – on how the IT services are maintained and delivered. Many shortcomings in the infrastructure can be compensated by the efficient activity of the organization providing maintenance and at the same time, even the best product from its class can be compromised by inefficient use or an upgrade that comes at an inconvenient time for the customer.

The technology of work in the IT department matters. In most cases, investments in organizational activities, raising the level of maturity of the IT department and the introduction of instruments for monitoring, are supported by a reduced number of system failures, increased service levels and reduction in the risk level.
Service management requires constant attention, execution of maintenance actions, constant evaluation with the purpose of finding abnormal activity and planning of improvements.

In conclusion: To ensure quality of service, a system for quality control is surely needed. This means that you need a system for management and control of all processes.

Mark-zuckerberg closes off google account then uncloses it again

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has reappeared on rival social network Google+, after a quick bout of now-you-see-me, now-you-don't privacy setting roulette.

Mark Zuckerberg: did he suddenly get all concerned about privacy? (AP)Mark Zuckerberg: did he suddenly get all concerned about privacy?

Zuck - who has consistently been the most followed person on Google's much-hyped new Facebook rival, even beating out Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin - suddenly when dark, with his privacy settings locked down so nobody could see which people (or how many) had him in their circles.

He wasn't the only one either - Brin, Page and Google+ project lead Vic Gundotra also suddenly went more private at some point last night, and nobody knows quite why.
The chart of Google+'s most popular individuals, kept by Google+ user (and co-founder of TwitterCounter and The Next Web) Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten at his social statistics website, showed that tech blogger Robert Scoble was the new most popular Google+ user - but no sooner had Scoble had the chance to bask in this new found glory than Zuckerberg, Page, Brin and Gundotra all reappeared as suddenly as they vanished.

Assuming that all four tech executives didn't have a cross-company pact to confuse people by disappearing and re-appearing at the same time, it seems more likely to us that their privacy lockdown was down to either a glitch, or an experiment being carried out by Google+ engineers. Google has made it clear that Google+ is a 'field trial', so things might occasionally not work.
The other alternative is that Zuckerberg - who famously said that he didn't think privacy was a 'social norm' any longer - suddenly got hit by a bout of shyness, and decided to try out the (rather widely praised) privacy settings on Google+.

No. 1 page on Google(PLUS) is Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg !!!

Any guesses as to who is the most popular person on Google(PLUS), the company's new social networking service? Ashton Kutcher , perhaps? Or Lady Gaga?

Actually, that title is currently held by Mark Zuckerberg , the founder and chief executive of Facebook - the very service that Google(PLUS) was meant to challenge.

As of Tuesday evening, Zuckerberg had nearly 35,000 people following his updates on the service, more than anyone else in a broad survey of Google(PLUS) profiles by Social Statistics, an outside service. His fan base exceeds that of Larry Page , one of the founders of Google and its recently appointed chief executive, who had only 24,000 people following him.

Google(PLUS) is less than a week old and is still not yet widely available to the public. But access to the service, which lets people share photos, links, status updates and video chats with groups of friends, is already in high demand among early adopters who are eager to play with its features. That includes Zuckerberg, who apparently signed up to keep tabs on his new adversary.

Neither Facebook nor Google confirmed whether Zuckerberg's profile was real. But his account is linked with those of several Facebook executives who are also on Google(PLUS), including Bret Taylor , the chief technology officer, and Sam Lessin , a product manager, suggesting that it is authentic. Zuckerberg has yet to post anything that can be seen by the wider public. His own description on his profile page says simply, "I make things."

"It makes sense that he wants to check it out," said Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten , who is one of the founders of the technology blog The Next Web and built the Social Statistics service on a whim. "Everyone wants to keep an eye on the competition."

Zuckerberg's visit to his rival's turf may be an indicator that the social networking wars are reaching a new pitch. Plenty of major companies, including Google, Apple and Microsoft , are eager to gain access to the potentially lucrative trove of social data and other information that people share on these services. Facebook has long reaped the benefits of having access to such data, which helps it aim its advertisements more precisely.

"The battle for the future of the Web lies in the social experience," said Ray Valdes , an analyst at Gartner Research .

Facebook also has the world's biggest map of the connections between people. It is not possible to transfer data about one's Facebook connections into Google(PLUS), so most users will have to rebuild that list on the new service. On Tuesday, Facebook blocked an add-on for Google's Chrome browser that was created by an outside programmer and gave people a way to import their Facebook contacts into services like Google(PLUS). Facebook said the add-on violated the company's terms of service.

Google is hoping to bring its new social network to the iPhone and iPad through applications it has submitted to Apple. In the past, Apple has let apps created by Google linger in limbo, without approving or rejecting them.
